Spotting Scopes, whether plastic or glass, require regular upkeep to maintain peak performance.
These scopes have high-quality, multicoated lenses that provide higher resolution and color fidelity when looking through them. However, a dirty or smudged scope lens will decrease the brightness and sharpness of the image.
Cleaning a Spotting Scope
Step 1:
Use the Soft-Tek microfiber cloth to wipe down the outside of the spotting scope, avoiding the lenses at this time. .
Step 2:
Start with the larger lens.
Use the Ultra Brush to remove any large dust particles, moving from the center of the lens towards the outside edges.
Step 3:
For a more aggressive cleaning, use Premium Grade Lens Cleaning Tissue and Formula MC or LensBrite liquid lens cleaner.
Place a few drops of cleaner on the tissue and rub in a circular motion from the center of the lens toward edges.
Before the liquid dries, use a dry sheet of tissue and clean in a circular motion until the fluid is gone.
Step 4:
Repeat steps 2 and 3 on the smaller lens.
It’s recommended that you use just one piece of Premium Grade Lens Tissue folded several times to better fit the smaller lens.
Note: It is common to find oils on the eyepiece lens. Therefore, it may be necessary to clean this lens a few times to completely remove all particles for maximum performance.
